Leadership Team

Peter Mintzberg is CEO of Grayscale Investments. Mintzberg joined Grayscale from Goldman Sachs, where he served as Global Head of Strategy for Asset and Wealth Management. Prior, he held several global leadership roles in Strategy, M&A, and Investor Relations at OppenheimerFunds, Invesco, BlackRock and Apollo. With deep knowledge across a broad base of client types and asset classes, Mintzberg has over two decades of experience developing and executing strategy and innovating to drive growth. Mintzberg started his career working at McKinsey & Co. in New York, San Francisco, and São Paulo, focused on the financial services and technology sectors. 

Mintzberg was recognized as a Latino leader in Finance by The Alumni Society in 2018, and was selected as a David Rockefeller Fellow in the 2016-2017 Class by The Partnership for New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Universidade Federal Rio de Janeiro, and an MBA from Harvard University.

Edward McGee is the Chief Financial Officer of Grayscale Investments, overseeing daily financial activities and identifying growth opportunities for the company.

Prior to joining Grayscale, Edward served as a VP on the Accounting Policy team at Goldman Sachs, providing coverage to their SEC Financial Reporting team. Edward also previously held an auditor position at Ernst & Young, where he provided assurance services to publicly listed companies.

Edward earned his B.S. in Accounting from the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa, and graduated with honors after earning his MAcc from Rutgers Business School. He is also a Certified Public Accountant licensed in New York.

Hugh Ross is the Chief Operating Officer of Grayscale Investments and has been with the Firm since 2021. He is responsible for the company’s Operations, Technology and People teams. Prior to joining Grayscale, he spent twelve years as COO of Horizon Kinetics LLC, a NYC-based investment manager where he was similarly responsible for the firm’s operating infrastructure as well as serving as point person for the firm’s crypto-asset initiatives. During the ten years immediately preceding his tenure at Horizon Kinetics, Hugh was a Vice-President with Goldman Sachs & Co. where he served as COO of the long-only investment manager research team then-known as Global Manager Strategies (GMS), within Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), part of the firm’s Investment Management Division. He also served as a compliance officer for both GSAM and Goldman’s Private Wealth Management business. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Hugh worked as an in-house counsel for a transfer agent and started his career as securities industry attorney representing broker/dealers and investment advisers. Hugh received a BBA from Emory University and a JD from New York Law School.

Craig Salm is the Chief Legal Officer at Grayscale Investments. In this role, Craig oversees the daily legal and regulatory operations of the business and its products. Prior to joining Grayscale, Craig was a corporate associate at Paul Weiss and a member of its Capital Markets & Securities Group – primarily focused on representing issuers, private equity sponsors, investment banks, hedge funds, and other stakeholders in corporate finance transactions, as well as advising on securities law and corporate governance matters. Craig earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Craig serves as a board member of the Ethereum Classic Cooperative, as the co-chair of the Securities Law Working Group for the Blockchain Association and is an active member of the Crypto Ratings Council (CRC).

Norah Beers is the Chief Information Security Officer at Grayscale Investments, responsible for enterprise security risk management, as well as IT infrastructure and support. Norah joins Grayscale after 12 years at Bridgewater Associates, where she headed Investment Engineering and was the Head of Information Security for the firm’s front office and enterprise technology.

Norah is an expert in integrated risk management for financial firms, and specializes in  minimizing risk to financial operations while executing complex technology transformations. Norah holds a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College.

Dorothy Brill is the Chief People Officer at Grayscale Investments, overseeing the company’s Human Resources and Talent functions. 

Prior to joining Grayscale, Dorothy was Head of Human Resources for both Strategic Value Partners and Silver Point Capital. Earlier in her career, Dorothy held HR leadership positions at GE and GE Capital, Synapse, and Thomson Reuters. Throughout Dorothy's career, she has focused on building teams to facilitate growth and business success. 

Dorothy holds a B.A. from Williams College, and an MBA from Cornell's Johnson School of Management.

David LaValle is the Senior Managing Director, Global Head of ETFs at Grayscale Investments. He is responsible for leading the strategic development and management of Grayscale’s ETF business. 

Prior to joining Grayscale, David was the Chief Executive Officer of VettaFi (formerly Alerian), a global index and data firm. In that role, David was responsible for all facets of the business including leading the firm’s growth and business transformation strategy, formulating and overseeing the Executive Management Team and representing the firm as a frequent spokesperson for press engagements and events. Previously, David was the US Head of SPDR ETF Capital Markets and a member of the senior leadership team at State Street Global Advisors, a $3.5 trillion-dollar global asset manager. Prior to State Street, David led Nasdaq’s Exchange Traded Product Marketplace where he was responsible for all aspects of strategy and business development for Nasdaq’s ETP listing and trading businesses. Before joining Nasdaq, David was a member of the New York Stock Exchange and American Stock Exchange where he managed trading businesses.

David earned his B.A. from Georgetown University, majoring in Theology. He has also served on the Security Traders Association of New York (STANY) Board and is a current member of the Wall Street Rides FAR charity advisory board.

Rayhaneh Sharif-Askary is the Managing Director, Head of Product and Research at Grayscale Investments. She is responsible for ensuring Grayscale’s products are compliant, cutting edge, and exceed market demands. Since joining Grayscale in 2018, Rayhaneh has helped raise billions of new capital into Grayscale’s products and has brought the crypto asset class to some of the world’s most sophisticated and significant investors.  

Prior to joining Grayscale, Rayhaneh spent 10 years at UBS Investment Bank, focused on the leveraged finance investment banking, leveraged capital markets, and syndication and distribution businesses.  

She graduated magna cum laude from Duke University, with a B.S. in Economics, and was named one of Business Insider’s 2020 Rising Stars of Wall Street.

John Hoffman is the Head of Distribution and Partnerships at Grayscale. Prior to joining Grayscale, John was Head of Americas, ETFs and Indexed strategies at Invesco, which he joined in 2006. At Invesco, he also held positions including Head of Distribution for the Registered Investment Advisor Division, Private Client Group and Personal Investing Platforms; Head of ETF Distribution for all retail channels in the United States, and Global Head of ETF Capital Markets & Institutional Sales.
